Ewing Buick GMC holds a monthly contest to honor the teachers in the area. Called the “Teacher of the Month” program, we’ve awarded Ms. Lewis and Lori Turnball our January and February winners, respectively, and we’re in the process of determining the winner of March. Dedicated to highlighting the important role that teachers play in our community, we couldn’t be happier to see so many nominated.
The “Teacher of the Month” contest stresses the importance of good role models in our society, recognizing teachers who find ways to go above and beyond every day. You can nominate your favorite teacher on our Facebook page or visit the contest website for more details. Teachers win by receiving “likes” on Facebook, and the winner gets a $250 check from the dealership.
This contest focuses on teachers from independent school districts around the area. For the month of March, we’ve concentrated on Little Elm. If you have a particularly influential teacher or you know someone who should be nominated, please take the time to include their name on our website. You can even come into the dealership to vote.
Why do we give this award? Teachers play a pivotal role in childhood development, and we here at Ewing Buick GMC truly appreciate the hard work many teachers put in. It can be a thankless job at times, but our goal is to highlight some of the good that occurs in local school districts.
When GMC first produced the Terrain in 2010, it was a boxy, rugged-luxury hybrid. This first generation is now coming to a close, with the updates coming to the 2018 GMC Terrain. Automotive News informs that the next Terrain will take a step back from the sharp edges and delve further into the luxury sector.
2018 is bringing a slimmer SUV – it’s losing around 465 pounds, as well as inches off the length, width and wheelbase. From the St. Louis Post Dispatch we learn that though fuel economy has yet to be determined, these size reductions and additional engine options are sure to help.
This year you may choose between a 7.0- or 8.0-inch IntelliLink Infotainment system, but that’s not the only addition. Apple and Android devices will be compatible to the system to provide more hands-free access. Many safety features will be added, such as lane departure warning, rear seat reminder, blind zone alerts and many more.
Other GMC Models
The GMC Acadia and Yukon are getting some tweaks for the 2018 model year as well. You can look for updates to the transmission, equipment and features of both of these vehicles this year.
Hopefully in the next few months we’ll get a few more glances at the 2018 GMC Terrain and all of its redesign glory. Until then, you can enjoy the 2017 Terrain while it lasts on our lot at Ewing Buick GMC!
The 1961 GMC Suburban is well over 50 years old at this point but that isn’t stopping one owner from hitting the trails. Michael Wymer took to the garage and created a customized monster of a Suburban. The end result is a beast that boasts more power than most sports cars along with all of the capability an SUV has to offer.
At more than half a century old, most drivers wouldn’t give the 1961 GMC Suburban a second glance – until they hear its engine roar. The 6.6-liter Duramax V8 engine boasts a heart-pounding 427 hp and 754 lb-ft of torque and that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the heart of this monster.
Wymer started the project on a shortened GMC Sierra 2500HD chassis. From there, he added a lift kit, shortened the CV axels, and created custom upper control arms. Normally such a challenge would take a team of mechanics but Wymer took the project on solo.
Today, he uses the Suburban to tow and haul other projects as well as take the occasional off-roading adventure. You won’t find another 50-plus-year-old vehicle that can do all of that and more!
We here at Ewing Buick GMC never cease to be amazed at what owners can do to their vehicles.
Keeping a New Year resolution can be challenging for even the most motivated people. Staying motivated is a battle within itself, especially if you aren’t sure how to go about succeeding in your resolution. Fortunately you don’t have to walk into your resolution blind. We here at Ewing Buick GMC have a few great tips to help you keep your New Year resolution in 2017!
Slow Down – When it comes to tackling your New Year resolution, it’s best to do so slowly. Changing several habits at once, for example, will increase the likelihood of failure. Start by changing one small habit and doing so consistently, then move on to another. Try to develop a rough schedule throughout the year so you can tackle each part of your resolution with full force.
Talk – Sometimes talking is one of the simplest ways to motivate yourself. Find a friend, family member, or pet that’s willing to sit and listen. They may even offer some advice. Simply discuss your resolution, what you want out of it, and how you plan to get it.
Relax – Failing once doesn’t mean your year is wasted. Shake the shortcoming off and try again. There’s nothing wrong with failure provided you can always get back up and give your resolution another shot!
GMC is known for offering some of the most popular vehicles on the market and it’s been recognized by AutoPacific for doing so year after year. Now, GMC has been named the Most Ideal Popular Brand for the third consecutive year. Three GMC models led their segments, making GMC one of only two automakers to accomplish the feat. GMC took home the top honor in AutoPacific’s 2016 Ideal Vehicle Awards thanks to the Acadia, Yukon/Yukon XL, and the Sierra pickup. The Acadia topped the Large Crossover SUV segment while the Yukon/Yukon XL dominated the Large SUV segment. The GMC Sierra tackled the Light Duty Pickup segment for the second year in a row and also served as the brand’s bestselling model. Of the three, the 2017 GMC Acadia is all-new for the model year and boasts an impressive interior, advanced infotainment system, innovative safety technologies, and more. The SUV offers a comfort-oriented ride that makes it perfect for both short and long trips. In order to determine what brand and vehicles took home the top honors, the 2016 Ideal Vehicle Awards surveyed more than 65,000 owners. The survey took place after 90 days of ownership and asked customers what changes they would make in their vehicles in 15 categories. GMC featured the least amount of requested changes, earning it the top spot for the third year in a row. Here at Ewing Buick GMC near Dallas, TX, we’re proud to see GMC taking home another top honor!

Though most of us know the importance of wearing sunscreen to protect our skin from the sun’s UV rays, many do not know the different types of sunscreen available. Primarily – there are physical sunscreens, chemical sunscreens, and hybrid types that include both physical and chemical properties.
The terms “physical” and “chemical” refer to the product’s method of blocking UV rays. Physical sunscreens create a physical barrier between your skin and the sun, with products such as titanium oxide and zinc oxide.
Meanwhile, chemical sunscreens use chemicals to actually absorb the sun’s rays. There are many chemicals commonly found in these types of sunscreen, including octylcrylene, avobenzone, and octinoxate.
So which type of sunscreen is right for you? Overall, both chemical and physical sunscreen will offer you significant protection, but each have their own pros and cons.
For example, while physical sunscreen is gentler on the skin and becomes effective the moment it’s applied, some physical ingredients do not cover the full UV spectrum. Conversely – chemical sunscreens offer full-spectrum protection but can irritate your eyes and skin and take twenty minutes to become effective.
Know that you know the difference between physical and chemical sunscreen, be sure to cover up this season! Let us know if you found this useful at Ewing Buick GMC in Plano, TX.
The much-anticipated 2016 Buick Verano’s reveal happened at the Shanghai GM Gala Night, just ahead of the Shanghai Auto Show. The Verano compact sedan was first introduced in 2011, and the 2016 model will be all-new, marking the car’s second generation.
Though details remain scarce, we do know that the 2016 Verano was inspired by the 2013 Buick Riviera concept, however designers also used elements from the new, luxurious Avenir concept. The Avenir-inspired styling cues include the front and rear wing-tipped LEDs and a windshield and rear glass with a steeper angle. The steeply-raked glass in the front and rear not only reduces the drag coefficient, but also makes the car appear longer than it actually is.
Autoblog.com points out that the new Verano is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged Ecotec four cylinder, capable of putting out 166 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque.
It remains to be seen how the U.S.-bound model may differ. Here at Ewing Buick GMC, we’ll keep you updated as more Buick Verano information becomes available.

That’s why we are bursting with pride to announce that Buick beat a host of luxury brands to become the second most dependable auto brand in America.
The title comes from the 2015 Vehicle Dependability Study conducted by J.D. Power in which 2012 model year vehicles were evaluated for the number of problems reported in the past 12 months. Those issues are used to calculate the problems per 100 vehicles (PP100). The vehicles with the lowest number of problems reported rank highest on the list.
“Buick’s ranking is a testament to the fact that [we’re] on the leading edge of reliability, quality and customer service,” said Buick’s vice president, Duncan Aldred. “More and more customers are visiting the Buick showroom because we put these values at the core of every model we bring to the market.”
In addition to the brand’s overall success, the Buick LaCrosse took the top spot for dependability among large cars, while the Enclave ranked second in the competitive Midsize SUV segment.
