Buick isn’t just a model for the older generation, and honestly it never has been! Buick has a long history of performance starting back in 1936 with the introduction of the Buick Series 60 Century. This model was powered by a 320-cu.in. overhead valve straight 8 engine. The Series 60 Century could run at 100mph which was a huge feat back in the 30s.
Another performance-packed Buick was the 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1. This track-ready car was powered by a 7.4-liter V8 engine which made a whopping 360-hp and an unheard of 510-lb.ft. of torque. The GSX Stage 1 was followed by the 1978 Turbo Regal Sport Coupe. This Buick set a sales record for the Buick brand by offering V8 performance matched with better fuel economy.
In 1984, the Buick Grand National was introduced followed by the 1987 Buick GNX. It is likely that you have seen these Buicks at the track. The GNX was an instant collector’s edition type car. The newest performance car in the Buick lineup is the 2014 Buick Regal GS. This sporty sedan is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that is tuned to make 259-hp and 985lb.-ft. of torque.
Luckily, we have the newest Buick performance sedan on our lot in Plano, Texas. Stop by this weekend to check it out!
Say hello to the GMC Canyon; the GMC Sierra’s little brother. With the introduction of the GMC Canyon, the automaker challenges the definition of “pickup truck”. In the world of pickups, we tend to assume that it’s got to be a big, gas-guzzling beast in order to be awesome. We happen to think there’s a place for a smaller, more efficient pickup, and it’s equally awesome.
The 2015 GMC Canyon can do things and go places that a Sierra 2500 could never do or go. The Canyon has a turning radius of just 41 feet, while electronic power steering provides easy maneuverability in situations where big trucks would struggle. Take that, Sierra 3500. The short-bed crew cab is just 212.7 inches long, ideal for people who regularly park in tight spots, parking garages or have a small garage.
EPA highway estimates are impressive; 22 mpg for 4×4 versions, and 24 mpg for 2WD models. Sierras equipped with the 4.3L V-6 will boast the highest available towing rating of 7,200 pounds, making it the most capable V-6 truck available.
“With its smaller size and associated nimble nature, Canyon provides pickup capability and exceptional comfort in an efficient and more manageable package,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of GMC Sales and Marketing in a news release. “An increasing number of customers don’t need the full capability of a full-size pickup, yet desire the functionality a pickup offers. These customers appreciate the smaller size of mid-sized pickups, with their ability to easily fit in a garage, travel downtown areas of big cities, and navigate crowded parking lots. The all-new 2015 GMC Canyon represents the best of both worlds in this sense.”
Does this sound like the compromise you’ve been looking for? Stop by Ewing Buick GMC today to learn more about the 2015 GMC Canyon!
While most of us equate summertime with beautiful beaches, afternoons and evenings at the ballpark, and enjoying some fun in the sun with our family and friends, it’s important to remember that summer can be a dangerous time of year as well. In fact, just this year, 18 people have died just from being trapped inside a hot car for too long. Even more tragic, almost all such deaths are infant deaths—babies mistakenly left in hot, parked vehicles can’t survive long in such extreme conditions.
However, Alissa Chavez, a 17-year-old girl from Albuquerque, New Mexico, believes she has a solution to this sobering problem. Her “Hot Seat” invention, an alarm system that warns parents when they wander away from a child still in its car seat in a parked car, won her science fair three years ago, and she’s been tinkering with her invention ever since. Currently, she’s trying to raise enough money to build an actual prototype of the Hot Seat.
If you’d like to help Alissa Chavez make her Hot Seat system a reality, check out the invention’s indiegogo page to help fund this awesome, life-saving new safety feature. And if you’re looking for vehicles that already have excellent safety technologies, come see us here at Ewing Buick GMC to check out our top-rated and award-winning vehicles today.
When it comes to consumer advocacy, Consumer Reports is one of the most trusted organizations. In its recent round of testing, it found the 2014 Buick Regal’s luxury was on par with the likes of the BMW 328i and the Mercedes-Benz C250.
In the final results, the Regal finished one point behind the BMW and tied for second with the Mercedes-Benz. Imagine having all that luxury and performance for thousands of dollars less.
“The Regal is a thoroughly developed and satisfying mid-sized sports sedan that’s more reminiscent of a German sports car than the softly sprung luxo-barges that Buick was once known for,” Jake Fisher, Consumer Reports’ director of automotive testing, said in the report.
Helping the Regal score well with the judges was its turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that makes it more fuel-efficient and quicker, without requiring premium fuel. It also shifts smoothly and accelerates quickly.
For the best premium sedan that offers luxury, performance, and a good value, come check out the 2014 Buick Regal available now at Ewing Buick GMC.
A few years ago it was unclear about the future of the Buick brand. Known for its 65+ age demographic, Buick seemed like a choice for only the older generation. If you had asked back in 2009 what the future looked like for Buick, many would have said it would be extinct by 2010. Buick took 2009’s harsh reality and decided to change and refresh the dying Buick brand.
In the last few years, Buick has completely redesigned their lineup giving the younger generation something to be excited about! Buick is no longer and old timer’s brand, you will now see that it is a top choice for young families. With the introduction of the Regal GS, the brand has been able to capture younger drivers by offering style and sport. Mark Reuss, former President of GM North America calls the overhaul “refined luxury.”
In recent months, GM has undergone some serious recalls with its other brands, but Buick has held strong! Officials over at Buick say that they have big plans for the future, but like to keep everything low-key. What do you think of the fresh Buick lineup? Let us know in the comment section below!
Recently, new protocols were put into play industry-wide to test the maximum tow capacity in real-world driving conditions. The tests were aimed to keep the playing field consistent among all auto manufacturers and to give consumers a clear definition of what they can really expect from their truck. Many manufacturers saw their tow capacity decrease while implementing SAE J2807. The Sierra 1500, however, did not see a decrease after implementation of the new tests. The 2WD double cab Sierra equipped with the 6.2-liter V8 engine maintains its 12,000-lb. max trailering configuration.
How was the Sierra able to keep its rating, while other trucks fell? The Sierra 1500 is equipped with the most powerful engine in its segment. It makes an outstanding 420-horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. It is also available with a 9.76-inch rear axle and heavy-duty rear springs to help with hauling.
As you can see, the 2014 Sierra 1500 is ready to work! With other features like a CornerStep bumper and a center console big enough for work files, the Sierra 1500 can be the perfect mobile office. If you would like to know more about the 2014 Sierra, stop by Ewing Buick GMC!

It is also important to note that the Terrain received a 2014 Top Safety Pick+ distinction from IIHS. Relax and slow down, you’re on vacation after all! The higher the speed, the more gas/fuel you’re using. Slow down and take in the scenery while you are cruising down the interstate. You never know what you might see!
Use cruise control when you can. If you are doing some major highway driving, cruise control will help you maintain a consistent speed while keeping you from wasting gas.
Pack only the necessities. Extra baggage means extra weight which will definitely hurt your wallet when it comes to gas prices. When packing, try to keep your luggage within the vehicle as storing overhead can cause extra drag.
From the team here at Ewing we sincerely wish you safe travels this summer!
