Buick Has a Rich History of Performance

Buick isn’t just a model for the older generation, and honestly it never has been! Buick has a long history of performance starting back in 1936 with the introduction of the Buick Series 60 Century. This model was powered by a 320-cu.in. overhead valve straight 8 engine. The Series 60 Century could run at 100mph which was a huge feat back in the 30s.

Another performance-packed Buick was the 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1. This track-ready car was powered by a 7.4-liter V8 engine which made a whopping 360-hp and an unheard of 510-lb.ft. of torque. The GSX Stage 1 was followed by the 1978 Turbo Regal Sport Coupe. This Buick set a sales record for the Buick brand by offering V8 performance matched with better fuel economy.

In 1984, the Buick Grand National was introduced followed by the 1987 Buick GNX. It is likely that you have seen these Buicks at the track. The GNX was an instant collector’s edition type car. The newest performance car in the Buick lineup is the 2014 Buick Regal GS. This sporty sedan is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that is tuned to make 259-hp and 985lb.-ft. of torque.
