Thanksgiving isn’t just a day to hang out with family and eat good food—it’s also the beginning of a long holiday weekend and there are tons of special things to do that make it the perfect weekend for family trips and bonding. If you’re in the northeast Texas area, you might want to check out some of these things to do in Dallas and Fort Worth over Thanksgiving weekend.

Thanksgiving in Dallas and Fort Worth is unlike any other time of year. You won’t want to miss the Cowboys game on Thanksgiving Day—it’s a tradition! This year the Cowboys are playing the Oakland Raiders.

There’s also the annual Turkey Trot held by the Dallas YMCA. It takes place the morning of Thanksgiving Day and features pony rides, games, and music for family and friends, while participants in the race walk or run 8 miles from City Hall.

You also won’t want to miss the Fort Worth Parade of Lights, which takes place the evening of November 29th. Finish up your weekend with visits to Klyde Warren Park, which is right in the middle of Dallas and has tons of games and activities, and the recently redesigned GeO-Deck at Reunion Tower.

Come to Weatherford for the Parker County Peach Festival

Every year, Historic Downtown Weatherford comes to life for the annual Parker County Peach Festival, a massive one-day event that attracted over 45,000 visitors in 2015. For 2016, the peach festival is coming up quick on Saturday, July 9th, and features over two hundred activities, arts & crafts, and food vendors in addition to live music, the Peach Pedal Bike Ride, and the “42” Domino Tourney. The peach festival always takes place on the second Saturday in July in Weatherford, Texas. For 2016, the festival is celebrating its 32nd year in business. Children 12 and under are free to enter, whereas adults pay $5 for tickets or $4 is they bought their ticket in advance from the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce Office. The peach festival opens at 8 AM on the 9th and ends at 5 PM; however, if you’re taking place in the Peach Pedal Bike Ride, the activities begin as early as 7:30. The event offers free remote parking with a free shuttle that runs to the lots. Festival guests may take the shuttle to the festival to avoid busy crowds close to the grounds. A list of vendors will be available on the official website closer to the date, while the live entertainment, including a children’s stage, will span three stages throughout the festival.
